Atlanta, Ga. (KFMO) - The Kansas City Chiefs escaped the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with a win Sunday night, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 22-17.
Close games have become a habit for Kansas City as of late. Atlanta led Kansas City at the half, 14-13, but the Chiefs were able to take the lead early in the third quarter on a Harrison Butker field goal. A touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes, his second of the day, gave the Chiefs an 8-point lead later in that same quarter, but Butker missed the extra point, giving the Falcons a chance to tie.
While Atlanta would muster up enough offense to kick a field goal with 12:52 to go, the Chiefs defense stood strong from there, even stopping Falcons star running back Bijan Robinson on 4th and inches on Atlanta's last drive to secure the win.
Kansas City is now 3-0. Next up is AFC West rival Los Angeles. The Chargers lost to Pittsburgh on Sunday.
