2 Teens Killed in Ste. Genevieve County Wreck

(Ste. Genevieve County, MO) 2 teenagers, 18 year old Shayleigh Smith of Jackson, and an unidentified 16 year old male from Hayti, Missouri, are dead after their automobile was hit by a pick up early Saturday morning in Cape Girardeau County. According to reports from Highway Patrolmen the wreck took place at 1:48 am. The car the teens were traveling in became disabled and was sitting on the bridge over apple creek on Interstate 55, blocking both lanes. The 16 year old was outside the vehicle, while Smith was inside, when the pick up, driven by 72 year old Lee Edward of Memphis, Tennessee, hit their car. The force of the impact caused the car to strike the teen who died later at St Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Smith died at the scene. Lee was not injured.
