(Jefferson County, MO) Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney, Trisha Stefanski, is announcing the charges against Colby McCreary are being amended to driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor. McCreary was originally charged with one count of driving while intoxicated resulting in the death of another and one count of involuntary manslaughter, both Class C felonies. According to reports April 30th of 2023, Colby McCreary and his wife, Savannah, were involved in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Festus. The investigation was first conducted by the Festus Police Department, and then taken over by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Criminal charges were filed against Colby McCreary on June 6, 2023. Since the filing of charges, a full crash reconstruction report was completed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Stefanski says given the findings in the crash reconstruction report, they believe there is now a reasonable doubt as to whether McCreary committed the offenses with which he was originally charged.
