(St. Francois County, MO) The sales tax collections in St. Francois County are still on the rise and have been for the past year. At Tuesday's St. Francois County Commission meeting Presiding Commissioner, Harold Gallaher, explained so far, year to date, the county's sales tax rate is up 5.97%. Gallaher says it has a lot to do with St. Francois becoming a destination for the adjoining counties.
Gallaher adds unfortunately with the cost of some goods like lumber going up this also contributes to a rise in the sales tax collections. In other business at the meeting the bridge replacement on Busiek Road was discussed. Highway Superintendent Clay Copeland reported Busiek Road is now closed near the intersection with Worley road while the bridge is being replaced. The project could keep the road closed for the next six months.
