(Jefferson County, MO) Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak is announcing the arrest of 33 year old Steven Deering who has been accused of serious crimes across two counties. According to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's office Deering is charged with Vehicle Hijacking, three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child Creating Substantial Risk in the 1st Degree, Assault in the 3rd Degree Special Victim, Tampering with a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree, and two counts of Burglary in the 1st Degree. Deering is accused of assaulting an elderly woman at her home in the 6500 block of Haven Hill Road in Barnhart Friday, March 22nd, and then stealing her vehicle. He allegedly drove the vehicle to a nearby home in the 6300 block of Dry Creek Road in Barnhart. Investigators believe Deering broke into that home and threatened to harm the three young children inside. A Sheriff’s Office Deputy with SWAT training arrived on the scene moments later, kicked in the locked front door of the home, confronted Deering, and took him into custody without incident. Neither the children and woman in the house, nor the Deputy, were injured. Detectives learned Deering is also suspected of a serious assault and car theft in the city of Maplewood, MO, before the events in Jefferson County. Deering is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a $150,000 cash only bond.
