Farmington Asks Utility Customers to Verify Water Service Line Material

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - The City of Farmington has mailed letters to some utility customers requesting their help in identifying the material of their water service lines. The request complies with the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The letters were sent to customers whose service line materials are listed as "unknown" in the city’s records. The information is needed to build an accurate inventory of water service lines, which will assist the city in planning for the replacement and remediation of lead service lines.

To identify the service line material, customers can use visual inspection, a scratch test, or a magnet test. Helpful resources include:

Printed versions of these resources are available at the Development Services office, located at 101 S. Jefferson Street in Farmington. Customers can report their findings via email at crasnick@farmington-mo.gov, by phone at 573-756-0608, or in person at the Development Services office.

Farmington ensures its water meets or exceeds EPA and Missouri Department of Natural Resources standards. Recent tests show lead levels well below the action threshold. Customers can also request a free lead test kit, available at the Development Services office.

Not all utility customers will receive a letter. Service line materials for some properties have already been determined through construction records or inspections.
