Farmington R-7 School District Addresses Health Class Video Concerns

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Farmington R-7 School District is responding to concerns raised by parents regarding a video shown in a health class. In a letter sent to parents on Wednesday, district officials assured the community that they are investigating the matter and are committed to ensuring all instructional materials align with approved curriculum standards.

The video, which was not part of the district’s state-approved curriculum, was assigned by a teacher from an external educational platform. The district was unaware of the video's use and is taking steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. According to the letter, the district is investigating how the video was introduced into the classroom.

The current health unit in question focuses on how personal choices can influence long-term health. Students are exploring topics such as the impact of genetics on health, access to healthcare, and decision-making skills to reduce health risks. The district emphasized that the goal of the unit is to help students understand how today's choices can affect their future well-being.

Parents are encouraged to reach out to the district with any further questions or concerns at 573-701-1300 ext. 2009. The district has reassured families that all classroom content will meet approved educational standards moving forward.
