Impeachment of Desloge Mayor Halted, Board Votes to Stop Proceedings

Desloge, Mo. (KFMO) - Impeachment proceedings against Desloge Mayor Peter Pasternak came to a suprising end Monday night, as the Desloge Board of Alderpersons voted to end the process on a 4-2 vote.

Monday's meeting saw another packed crowd at the Desloge City Hall, with the vast majority of the crowd in favor of stopping the impeachment process. Public comments lasted over an hour, during which several citizens urged the board to reconsider their stance.

Later in the meeting, Alderwoman Debbie Kester, a longtime supporter of the mayor and opponent of impeachment, submitted a motion to end the process before another reading of the resolution to remove Mayor Pasternak from office. Alderman Travis Crews supplied the second, but said there was work to do internally.

Alderpersons Kester, Crews, Linda Moore, and Mark Bonney then voted in favor of the motion. Alderpersons John Wigger and Kelly Harris voted against, voting to continue the impeachment proceedings. Following the vote, Wigger said he respected the board's decision.

Monday's vote ends what had been a months long process featuring several contentious council meetings.
