Jefferson County Deputy Charged in Wife's Death

(Jefferson County, MO) Jefferson County Sheriff, Dave Marshak, is announcing charges of Driving While Intoxicated resulting in the death of another, and one felony count of Involuntary Manslaughter, against former Deputy Colby McCreary. A press release from the Sheriff's office indicates the incident occurred in the early morning hours of April 30th when McCreary, and his now deceased wife, were involved in a single vehicle crash. McCreary was off duty at the time. April 30th, the Sheriff’s Office learned of the crash, and that one victim would likely die. The release states Festus Police told officers with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department they had wrapped up the investigation and the driver, McCreary, showed no signs of impairment. Marshak adds No Sheriff’s Office employees were on the crash scene while the victims were present, they arrived later. On or about May 10th, the Sheriff’s Office was notified by Highway Patrol officials that Festus Police requested they conduct an additional investigation. Marshak says he read the Probable Cause affidavit completed by the Highway Patrol and the information contained was substantially different than what sheriff's officials were told April 30th. McCreary was booked at the Jefferson County Jail and released on $10,000 surety bond.
