Fredericktown, Mo. (KFMO) - Officials with the Missouri Environmental Protection Agency are releasing the latest air quality findings after the explosion and fire that destroyed the Critical Mineral Recovery Battery Recycling Plant in Fredericktown October 30.
According to the Fredricktown Fire Department, control of the scene has been given back to the company now that the fire is considered fully extinguished. Reports indicate the clean up and demolition of the site will be handled by an environmental remediation contractor.
The water near the area is being monitored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The DNR will continue to provide primary environmental oversight during the cleanup. A reentry plan is being finalized for those evacuated due to the smoke plume. A company specializing in environmental, health, and safety is testing affected homes.
