Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train in Washington County

Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A tragic incident occurred Thursday afternoon in Washington County, claiming the life of a 55-year-old pedestrian near Potosi.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 4:05 p.m. on train tracks east of West Commercial Street, north of Williams Circle. A northbound Union Pacific locomotive, operated by a 49-year-old Cape Girardeau man, struck the pedestrian, identified as a resident of Cadet.

Reports indicate that the pedestrian was walking on the railroad tracks when the train's front left side made contact. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Washington County Coroner at 4:31 p.m.

The locomotive sustained no damage and was able to continue from the scene. Authorities were assisted in the investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Potosi Police Department.

This incident remains under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.
