Pharmacist Indicted in Prescription Forgery

(Farmingtom, MO.) A pharmacist Pittsburgh Kansas, who worked at a Farmington pharmacy in March, 40 year old Tamara Jo Nyachira, is charged with three felony counts of obtaining anti malaria and narcotic opioid drugs with forged prescriptions. A press release from the Department of Justice U.S. Attorney's office Eastern District of Missouri indicates Nyachira was a pharmacist for a large pharmacy chain, and worked at various pharmacies throughout Missouri, including a location in Farmington.  During March of 2020, Nyachira used several forged prescriptions to obtain two drugs, amoxicillin hydroxychloroquine.  Hydroxychloroquine has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat malaria, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis, and can also be used on an emergency basis for hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The Indictment also alleges she used a forged prescription to fraudulently obtain Codeine, an opioid drug and Schedule III controlled substance.  If convicted, the anti-infection prescription drug charges each carry a maximum penalty of 3 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, while the controlled substance charge carries a maximum penalty of 4 years.
