Thurby Convicted in Fatal Fiery Crash

(Jefferson County, MO) A man from Fenton, David G. Thurby, is convicted of three counts of second degree involuntary manslaughter in the deaths of a Bonne Terre couple and their infant son following a fatal crash in 2021. Prosecutors had hoped to see Thurby convicted of DWI resulting in death however the jury didn't agree. The lesser charge means the person convicted caused death through criminal negligence without the aspect of being intoxicated. 25 year old Lacey K. Newton, 30 year old Cordell S. Williams, and their 4 month old son Cordell Shawn Michael Williams died at the scene of the wreck which took place along Highway 30 in Jefferson County near Kennerly Park Drive. Thurby's vehicle struck the car being driven by Newton from behind. Both vehicles ran off the road and struck several trees with Newton's vehicle bursting into flames. Thurby admitted to authorities that he had been drinking. He was found to have a blood alcohol level of .192 percent, more than twice the legal limit. Thurby is expected to be sentenced sometime in March.
