Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Area

(Park Hills, Mo) - The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued a Winter Weather Advisory AND a Flood Watch for the entire region. In fact, much of the state is under either a Winter advisory or storm watch.  

The forecast is calling for up to 2/10th of an inch of ice here locally in the Parkland, and less than a half inch of snow possible throughout the day Friday. 

The official forecast from the National Weather Service for the Parkland calls for:

Friday

Snow and sleet likely before noon, then sleet, possibly mixed with rain and freezing rain between noon and 1pm, then rain or freezing rain after 1pm. High near 33. East wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday Night

Rain, possibly mixed with freezing rain, becoming all rain after 8pm. Temperature rising to around 44 by 4am. Southeast wind 11 to 17 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected.

Forecasters have also issued a Flood Watch from noon on Friday until late Friday night for the region as well, saying "Heavy rainfall from last weekend has resulted in soils remaining saturated and river and lake levels being higher than normal."

After the onslought of winter weather over the next 48 hours, forecasters say we can expect the coldest temperatures so far of the season next week, with some locations dipping into the single digits for lows, and highs below freezing until at least Tuesday.
