(Park Hills, MO) The Central Lady Rebels handle defending Class 2 State Champions, Jefferson Lady Blue Jays in straight sets 25-14, 25-16, 25-17 at the TJ Foulon Fieldhouse on Tuesday.
Outside hitters Madison Dunn, and Avery Johnson led the Central attack along with the defensive effort from Blair Sitton in the middle stifling the Jefferson offense. Lady Rebel Head Coach, Olivia Casey, says her outside hitters can be a dynamic duo for opposing defenders.
Central separated from Jefferson in the first set via a 9-1 run to lead 15-7 midway through the set after the first 12 combined points featured 4 ties. In set 2, the Lady Rebels erupted for 9 of the first 11 points to carry that momentum from the first set into the second.
The Lady Rebels trailed at just one point in the entire match, when Jefferson opened Set 3 with a 1-0 lead. Central tied and overtook the Lady Blue Jays on the next two points and didn’t trail again. The third set featured 3 ties at 1-1, 2-2, and 3-3. Again, an early rally sank the Lady Blue Jays as the Lady Rebels rattled off 10 of the next 13 points to draw a timeout by Jefferson Head Coach, Tara Fish.
Central’s Coach, Olivia Casey hopes the style of play Tuesday can define her squad for the rest of the season.
Central improves to 14-3 and will begin MAAA Regular Season Conference Play on Thursday in Ste. Genevieve against the Dragons in a Broadcast match on KFMO. Jefferson falls to 12-5-1 and are at Arcadia Valley Thursday.
