(Bonne Terre, MO) The Fredericktown Lady Blackcats continue the undefeated start to the season after a 10-6 victory over the North County Lady Raiders Thursday afternoon to improve to 6-0. The Lady Blackcats earned all 10 runs in the third and fourth innings thanks to a handful of North County errors.
In the top of the third, Calie Allgier roped a line drive single to centerfield scoring Anna Tripp and Jonsyn Rehkop. The first of three Lady Raiders errors in the inning put Allgier in scoring position.
Allgier would score when Sadie Gibson singled two pitches later. Gibson would come in as the fourth run in the inning on a Miley Wengler single. Wengler would later be thrown out at home plate trying to score from first. After three innings Fredericktown led 4-2.
The next inning, North County quickly got two outs when Raegan Pierce collected a Terri Duffel pop fly behind third base with her back to the infield. Pierce sharply fired a throw to Addy Goggin at second base to double up Laynee King who was off the bag too far.
The play that could’ve swung momentum in North County’s favor, instead began the Fredericktown 2-out rally. Rehkop singled with a runner on and advanced to second after a misplay by Lady Raider left fielder Emma Roper. That brought Allgier up for a second time with runners in scoring position.
Allgier ended the day 2-for-4 with 4 RBI. She scored for a second time on another RBI hit from Sadie Gibson.
The Lady Raiders committed two errors in the 4th inning and five total in the game. North County Head Coach Steve Elam says the errors were the difference in the game.
The Lady Raiders threatened in the bottom of the 7th inning scoring 3 runs with the help of a pair of Lady Blackcat errors. North County’s Amy Layton and Mady Pyeatt each had RBIs in the final stanza.
Layton picked up an earlier RBI to open the scoring in the bottom of the first on a single that brought in Sammy Waller. In the third, North County’s Madison Carroll doubled and later scored on a throwing error by Fredericktown Shortstop Sadie Gibson.
Waller scored in the fifth inning, as well, when Pyeatt picked up her first RBI of the game with a single with two runners on.
Fredericktown’s hitters made the adjustment after two scoreless innings at the plate. Lady Blackcat Head Coach Miriah Allgier says her team was able to make the adjustment quickly.
Michaela Reagan picked up the win after allowing 6 runs on 10 hits, she pitched all 7 innings. Sammy Waller gets tagged with the loss. Both pitchers struck out 4 batters each. North County’s Madison Carrol was 3-for-4 with 2 runs, Waller, at the plate, went 2-for-4 with 3 runs scored.
Fredericktown hosts Farmington in a broadcast game on Monday, while North County is at Chaffee that day. The Lady Raiders fall to 1-6.
