(Park Hills, MO) The Mineral Area Lady Cardinals’ win streak reaches six games after a five set thriller on Tuesday night against the Jefferson Lady Vikings. MAC grabbed the lead late and hung on 25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 17-25, 15-12.
The Lady Cardinals looked strong to start the first set using a 6-1 rally to take a five point lead at 8-3. A later 4-0 spurt propelled the Lady Cards to a 17-12 lead before a Jefferson timeout, and a later MAC timeout sandwiched a 7-4 attack from the Lady Vikings to get back within two points 21-19.
MAC closed out the first set on a 4-0 run.
Jeffco took the second set and trailed at just three points in the set (10-9, 11-9, 11-10). A back-and-forth third set saw MAC use an 18-8 advantage to go from trailing 9-7 to winning 25-17 as Jefferson never really had a sustained attack.
But the fourth set flipped 180 degrees. It was all JeffCo from the start as they led 8-4 before a MAC timeout. The margin was never less than three points after the timeout.
The fifth set featured seven total ties and two lead changes. MAC held a 6-4 advantage that was erased by Jefferson after they called a timeout. From 7-7 through 12-12 there were five ties. MAC used a 5-0 spurt to close out the final set and win the match.
The Lady Cardinals (9-3) will play at Lewis & Clark on Friday.
