(Park Hills, MO) The Nationally Ranked Mineral Area Cardinals and Lady Cardinals are set to host Three Rivers Community College on Saturday for homecoming at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse.
The Lady Cardinals (19-1, 4-0), who are ranked 17th in the Nation will meet the No.9-Lady Raiders for the first time this season. It will also be the first game between the teams since the MAC women knocked the Lady Raiders out of the Region 16 playoffs with the semifinal victory 92-80 in March.
Although Three Rivers was granted an appearance in the National Tournament with an at-large bid, they were absolutely embarrassed by 11-seeded Gulf Coast State 71-47.
The Lady Raiders (15-3, 2-1) lost their most recent game on Saturday to State Fair 56-49.
On the Men’s side of the Doubleheader the 2nd ranked MAC Cardinals put their undefeated record on the line against a program they’ve had success against in the last two seasons.
The Cardinals (20-0, 4-0) became the first team in the NJCAA to 20 wins after beating West Plains on the road Wednesday night 56-41. Three Rivers is 3-3 in January and .500 on the season 10-10, and 1-2 against Region 16 DI opponents.
Greg Heiar’s led MAC Cards are soaring in the rankings, reaching 2nd in the nation for the first time since the end of the 2020-2021 campaign. This week matches the highest the MAC men’s basketball program has been in a National Poll in program history.
Homecoming shirts will be available at the Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse Saturday night. The first 400 fans in attendance will get a shirt for free.
In a Press Release sent out by Mineral Area College, Athletic Director Jim Gerwitz spoke about Homecoming:
“We would love for the community to come out and pack the 'BOB'! Both our teams are playing extremely good basketball, I would love to see every seat in the gym full and people standing at the end rails like it was in the early 2000s. Homecoming is always a fun event for our students, community, and athletes. It’s a great time to come out and experience some MAC basketball and support our student athletes. We hope to see you there!”
