Ste. Genevieve, Mo. (KFMO) - The Potosi Lady Trojans captured their 2nd District championship in program history, defeating the Ste. Genevieve Dragons in straight sets Tuesday night.
Potosi (23-9-1) had lost two previous matchups against the Dragons (22-9-2), including in the MAAA tournament, but would not be denied on this night. After Ste. Genevieve opened up an early Set 1 lead, the Lady Trojans stormed back with a strong 7-0 run at 14-12 to advance to an eventual 25-20 opening set win.
That was a trend that persisted throughout the contest. The two teams would play even to a 7-7 tie in Set 2 before Potosi again jumped out to win 25-18. Finally, Potosi came back from a 14-11 deficit to win the final set, 25-18.
Ava Robart led all attackers with 20 kills in just the three sets. Eden Robart had 13. Ste. Genevieve was led by senior Kailynn Harmon, who finishes her career with a 7-kill performance.
Potosi moves on to the Sectional round, where they will host Cape Notre Dame. The Bulldogs won the District 1 championship after upsetting top-seed Dexter in 5 sets Tuesday.
