(Carterville, IL) The Mineral Area Lady Cardinals begin the second half of the season with a road win after defeating John A. Logan 83-64 on Saturday. Michell Butler led MAC in scoring with 16 points and contributed a double-double effort, adding 15 rebounds.
The Lady Cards used balance scoring to earn the victory. After Butler, Katelyn Chomko and Destiny Williams contributed 14 points, Lexi McCully added 13 and Gabby Moore went 4-of-5 from perimeter with 12 points from the bench. Audra Pasakarnis tallied 9 points but was huge on the glass with 10 rebounds, including 6 offensive boards.
After the victory, Mineral Area head coach, Briley Palmer, on the first game back after Christmas break.
It was just the third time all season MAC has scored above 80 points. At halftime the Lady Cardinal lead was just 7 points, 37-30. MAC would outscore the Lady Volunteers 46-34 in the second half enroute to the win. Coach Palmer on her team's play in the second half.
Mineral Area totaled 50 rebounds as a team while hitting 33-of-75 from the field.
John A. Logan began the second half of the season without their leading scorer Jaden Berry. They get 14 points from Cheyenne Trotter, 13 from Rhylea Johnson, while Shmyira Brown and Tylei Wofferd-Byrd each had 10 points in the loss.
MAC improves to 13-6 on the season and play Wendesday at Williams Baptist University against the JV team. The Lady Volunteers fall to 5-8 on the season.
