(St. Louis, MO) The St. Louis Cardinals evened up the series with the Milwaukee Brewers in a big way on Wednesday night when Nolan Arenado stepped up with the bases loaded in the 10th inning.
Arenado’s sixth career grand slam gave the Cardinals their second win in the last eight games and ended the Brewers’ six-game win streak.
Milwaukee took a 6-4 lead in the 8th inning after Joey Ortiz’s double scored two. But the Cards answered with two runs in the bottom of the 9th as Brewers’ Closer Devin Williams struggled to find the strike zone. Matt Carpenter and Tommy Pham were walked with the bases loaded.
Cardinals’ starter Kyle Gibson pitched 5.2 innings allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out five. He says it’s nice to see a close game go their way.
Arenado finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate and says the game winning grand slam meant a lot to him.
Luken Baker crushed a pinch-hit home run in the 7th inning in his first Major League at bat since 2023 that tied the game at 4-4. Masyn Winn was 3-for-6. Milwaukee’s Jackson Chourio collected four hits and two RBI in five at bats.
The series concludes today on B104.3 with pregame coverage starting at 12:20pm.
