St. Louis, Mo. (KMFO) - The St. Louis Cardinals won their second straight Tuesday, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1.
The scoring started in the top of the 2nd, when the Pirates got their lone run on a solo shot for Bryan de la Cruz. The Cardinals would then pick up a run in both the 3rd and 4th innings, including a home run for Jordan Walker in the latter, that would give them a 2-1 lead.
St. Louis picked up an insurance run in the 8th on a sacrifice fly, but it proved to be unnecessary. Ryan Helsley came in in the 9th and shut down the Pirates to preserve the win and earn his 45th save of the season.
The Cardinals are 76-75, and 7 games out of the final wild card spot. Game 3 of the 4-game set with Pittsburgh is tonight, pregame at 5:50, first pitch at 6:45 on B104.3.
