St. Louis, Mo. (KFMO) - The St. Louis Cardinals fell just a bit short of completing the sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates, dropping the final game 3-2 on Thursday.
Both teams picked up their first run in the 4th inning, but the Cardinals led briefly in the bottom of the sixth following an RBI double for Brendan Donovan. The Pirates tied things up in the very next half inning, the top of the seventh, on a solo home run for Yasmani Grandal. They'd then score the winning run in the top of the 8th, an RBI single for Nick Gonzales off of JoJo Romero. Aroldis Chapman came on and shut the Cardinals down in the 9th to earn the Pirates their only win of the series.
St. Louis is now 77-76. They start a series with the Cleveland Guardians today, first pitch 7:15. Pregame starts at 6:20 on B104.3.
