Toronto, On. (KFMO) - The St. Louis Cardinals finished their weekend series in Toronto with another loss, this time 3-2.
The Cardinals (74-75) got a good outing from starting pitcher Miles Mikolas, who went 5 innings and gave up just 2 earned runs. However, the offensive output wasn't where it needed to be. Jordan Walker did put the Redbirds on the board first with an RBI double in the fifth, but the team would only add one more run from that point, a Lars Nootbaar home run in the seventh. At the time, that had tied the game at 2-2.
Unfortunately, the Blue Jays had one more run in them, an RBI double for center fielder Nathan Lukes that forced the Cardinals into a do-or-die ninth. Closer Chad Green gave up two hits, but forced Walker to pop out to end the game.
St. Louis is now back below .500 and lose ground in the wild card race, they're 7 games back with 13 games left to play. They start a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates, starting Monday.
