Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - A quick-moving weather system is set to bring light snow to the Parkland on Saturday as it travels from northwest to southeast through the region. Snowfall is likely, with a 60-80% chance, but accumulations are expected to remain under an inch. While totals will be minimal, near-freezing temperatures could create slick and hazardous conditions on roadways, especially bridges and overpasses.
The snow is forecast to begin as early as 7 a.m. and taper off by 7 p.m. Saturday, leaving a window of potential travel challenges. Residents are urged to exercise caution and allow extra time for commutes.
In addition to the snow, a prolonged cold spell will grip the area through the holiday weekend and into early next week. Daytime highs are expected to remain in the low to mid-30s from Friday through Tuesday, with nighttime lows dropping to near or below 20 degrees.
The coldest temperatures will arrive Sunday and Monday mornings, with parts of northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois seeing lows near 10 degrees. Wind chills, while not extreme, could dip into the single digits for the first time this season.
Be prepared for the wintry weather and take precautions to stay safe on the roads and during the prolonged cold.
