St. Francois Co., Mo (KFMO) - An incident in Iron Mountain Lake on Thursday, April 24, 2025, led to multiple arrests and a Missouri Conservation Agent being seriously injured.
According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, the agent was conducting a routine patrol when he contacted 66-year-old Janet Shy of Bellview and her daughter, 36-year-old Megan Stroup, also of Bellview, regarding safety equipment issues.
Further checks through Central Dispatch revealed Stroup had multiple outstanding warrants. When the agent attempted to take her into custody, Stroup fled on foot. Shy interfered, pulling the agent away and allowing her daughter to escape.
During the struggle, several dogs from a nearby property attacked the agent, causing severe lacerations and puncture wounds. Shy was also bitten. Nearby residents, including Susan Adams, the reported owner of the dogs, helped separate the dogs from the individuals.
Emergency Medical Services treated the conservation agent at the scene before transporting him to the hospital. Shy fled to a nearby residence and was later found and treated for her injuries before being taken into custody and transported to the St. Francois County Detention Center.
Additional responding agencies included the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Iron Mountain Lake Police, Park Hills Police K-9 Unit, Bismarck Police, Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Mineral Area Drug Task Force.
A St. Francois County K-9 unit tracked and located Stroup hiding in weeds near the scene. During her apprehension, Stroup resisted arrest, prompting a defensive response from the K-9. She was treated for minor injuries and transported to the hospital before being booked into the St. Francois County Detention Center.
Investigators also discovered that Susan Adams, the owner of the dogs, had seven outstanding warrants. She was taken into custody and transported to the detention center.
Charges have been requested through the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office as follows:
Megan Stroup: Assault 2nd Degree on a Special Victim, Assault on a Police Animal, and Resisting Arrest
