Possible Tornado Causes Damage in Cape Girardeau

Cape Girardeau, Mo. (KFMO) - Crews are assessing damage and working to clear debris in Cape Girardeau after a possible tornado moved through the area Wednesday evening.

Initial reports indicate that the storm’s impact was most severe on the south end of Cape Girardeau and in the downtown area. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries.

Authorities temporarily closed Kingshighway between Bloomfield Road and William Street, as well as Cape Centre Drive between Kingshighway and Broadview, due to storm debris.

Officials have asked that residents and travelers avoid the city while emergency crews work to clear roadways and evaluate the extent of the damage.
