Herculaneum, Mo. (KFMO) - Spectrum, the nation's leading rural internet provider, has officially opened a new Field Operations Center in Herculaneum as part of its growing investment in high-speed broadband expansion across Jefferson County and surrounding areas.
The new facility, located at 1555 McNutt Street, represents more than $2.1 million in renovations and is now home to over 100 field technicians and support staff. These employees are responsible for maintaining and building Spectrum’s fiber-optic network, supporting local homes and businesses, and ensuring reliable service across the region.
As the company continues its multi-year rural broadband initiative, Spectrum also announced plans to hire an additional 100 field operations employees in the St. Louis area. Many of these new hires will work out of the Herculaneum location, which was strategically chosen to improve service capabilities in rural communities and boost response times for customers in Jefferson County.
The new operations center is part of Spectrum’s broader expansion project, which aims to connect more than 6,100 homes and small businesses in Jefferson County alone. In 2024, Charter—Spectrum’s parent company—extended its network to reach 44,000 new locations in Missouri, including 22,000 through rural construction efforts.
During a recent grand opening event, Spectrum also demonstrated its commitment to the local community by presenting a $1,000 check to CASA of Jefferson County, supporting services for children involved in the foster care and court systems.
Area Vice President Aaron Detwiler said the move to Herculaneum plays a key role in helping Spectrum serve more customers efficiently and continue growing its workforce.
Spectrum currently employs more than 6,500 people in Missouri, with the largest concentration in the St. Louis Metro Area. The company has emphasized its 100% U.S.-based workforce, with more than half of the Herculaneum facility’s employees living in Jefferson County.
The new Field Operations Center supports Spectrum’s $7 billion private investment to expand high-speed internet nationwide, including 100,000+ miles of new fiber-optic infrastructure and multi-gigabit internet access to 1.7 million additional locations across the country.
